Chelsea train at Cobham as usual amidst further reports of player clashes
Anthony Barry and Joe Edwards took the session after the sacking of Frank Lampard, but it is unclear if they will stay.
Chelsea went ahead and trained as normal at Cobham on Monday afternoon as news broke of Frank Lampard being sacked in the morning.
Players were told not to report at training until the afternoon, and Lampard was given his P45 by the powers that be first thing.
Lampard and his assistant Jody Morris have both gone, but coaches Anthony Barry and Joe Edwards are still here and they took the sessions today.
It is unclear whether they will stay and be part of the new coaching team that will be assembled by Thomas Tuchel, who now looks certain to be announced as the new boss any moment.
But as the players carried on about their business, further reports of real player unrest and relationship breakdowns came out.
Matt Law of The Telegraph even reported that Antonio Rudiger clashed with Cesar Azpilicueta on more than one occasion recently, as Chelsea’s captain attempted to ease tensions between players at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground.
Further to this, he claims that some of the young players have complained about the treatment they received from disgruntled team-mates and accusations of certain graduates being favoured have not always been solely confined to social media.
As has been the case so often at Chelsea with recent manager sackings, the board are picking the players over the manager and player power wins once again.
It is high time that the board moved on the deadwood at this club, sell the fringe players who are clearly the ones creating the issues here, and at least let Tuchel start with a fresh slate without any of the players who are known to cause issues - otherwise we just go in circles once again.
