Covering: Graham Potter GONE, Nagelsmann in? Sources on new goalkeeper target, Words on Kai Havertz, Plus all the latest Chelsea news and rumours!
Morning all,
So I had this all typed out last night with all the spill about how Chelsea must sack Graham Potter. I had all my articles penned and ready to go, all based around the fact that Potter was in charge. Then came the big announcement later on Sunday evening that the club have parted ways with Potter as manager, and Bruno Salter had taken over as interim boss, for now at least. So the some of the articles are now ‘out of date’ here, but still very relevant.
First of all though, recap here how Potter was let go by Chelsea and the replacements lined up. Sourced info in this one too.
Frustratingly, I penned the general news round up for Sunday here a couple hours before the club announced Potter was gone! But it’s still quite an interesting read.
I didn’t even do a match review for the Villa game. I was too mad, and I didn’t even need to. It’s a carbon copy of every time we have been crap under Potter this season.
Instead of a match report, I wrote some early articles. One here on why on Saturday I turned to actively calling for Potter to be sacked. And another sourced one here that had some sourced stuff in it, but is a little outdated now as it was penned Sunday morning.
Away from the Potter drama now, there was some Kai Havertz drama over the weekend that I have given my view on, his comments about Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel. I’ve got that here for those interested.
Finally, some sourced transfer news, and there is a new goalkeeper on the radar for Chelsea this summer. Check that out here.
I’ll be running the live blog today as usual. Things could happen quick with the new manager stuff, so I’ll be on there with any updates I get, or what other outlets are getting. However, I am driving into London this afternoon as I am heading in to watch the Chelsea U21s at Kingsmeadow tonight. So in the afternoon/evening, I will be on and off the blog when I can, it might not be so regular. If anything big goes on then I’ll stick it out on the Substack App chat. You can download it from your app store.
I’ll also do a little report/scouting report on the players who stand out to me live from the game tonight - so look out for that as a late upload tomorrow! As I said, anyone going to the game, let me know!
Peace, Si.
Morning Simon, is it a case very much where Todd Boehly and Eghbali are no longer involved as they were at the start of the season in the footballing side of Chelsea? It feels like it because I get the vibes that the decision to sack Potter was pushed more by the sporting directors than the owners. If that is the case, out of all the mistakes Boehly/Eghbali made in the summer until hiring Potter, the one thing thing they got spot on is our sporting team.
