Chelsea Newsletter - Monday 18th October
Covering Chelsea's win over Brentford, Donnarumma pursuit explained, The Tuchel and RLC love affair, Barkley's January transfer chances, and a general sweep of all Chelsea news...
Morning everyone!
Hope you all had a great weekend whatever you got up to and hope you managed to catch the Chelsea match.
It was an awful watch in the last 25 minutes I can’t lie. Brentford were all over us and were VERY lucky to at the very least not get a point on Saturday. We rode our luck massively but essentially it is the three points that mattered.
Chelsea stay top of the Premier League, and here is my unique match review on five key points.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek was terrific again on Saturday playing in the lone holding midfield role, and he is really thriving in a Chelsea shirt once again.
It’s not too late to hop on the train, but it’s gotten VERY busy once again. Check out my report on the Thomas Tuchel and Ruben Loftus-Cheek love affair here, entitled ‘The Rubentada’.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is a PSG goalkeeper these days, but before that when his future was up in the air and his contract at AC Milan was ticking down, Chelsea were very much in the frame to sign him, as I exclusively reported on a number of times on this site and on our Podcasts.
Well, Chelsea’s interest has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano over the weekend, so I thought I’d dive back into that here and explain what happened from what I had been reliably told.
One transfer rumour to rate from over the weekend and it involves Ross Barkley. The midfielder is very much a bit-part player under Thomas Tuchel this season. So where next for him? Read about that here.
And finally, our general news sweep for you here tidying up any more little bits and pieces that you may have missed from Sunday.
Thanks for joining me this Monday morning guys and fear not, this week the Champions League is back which means even MORE Chelsea action and even MORE to write/chat about!
Peace, Si.
