Covering: Wolves reflections, Lampard must help himself, Getting a tune out of broken instruments, Gallagher says team not clicking, Plus all the latest Chelsea news and transfer rumours!
Morning all,
Frank Lampard’s fairy-tale story did not start well. It wasn’t supposed to be like that.
The first chapter of the new Lampard’s Chelsea fairy-tale story began last week as he returned to the club he loves so much as interim manager until the end of the season. The first game came quick, but the excitement of the majority of the fanbase came crashing down once again as The Blues lost 1-0 to Wolves in what was a shambolic performance by most of the players.
I’ve dissected quite a few things after the game, with a lot to be said. First of all, my normal reflections article on the actual game can be found here.
Lampard mentioned after the game that his players lacked aggression, speed, and intensity, and he’s not wrong at all. This one is on the players, and I’ve spoken here about how we need to gut the squad this summer and which players I’d sell or keep.
Although Lampard only had two training sessions and was thrown straight into his first game, there was some questionable decisions made by him as well, namely the starting team selection and failing to drop under performing players. But as he said, they’ve all got a clean slate under him, but I’m not so sure that’s a wise idea at all, and I explain why here.
Conor Gallagher started the game in the 8 role, and Lampard is someone that he idolised on the pitch. Gallagher believes that the players are just not clicking right now and that is the issue. You can get his words and my views on them here.
And finally, gather up all the rest of Sunday’s news here in the general roundup, getting any further quotes and reactions after the game, as well as any transfer or new manager news that came in.
That’s it for today, I’ll have the live blog up and running as always today from around 8am.
Peace, Si.
I don’t get all the optimism just because Lampard has come back into the hot seat. This is the same players that have been shit all season. Regardless if they’ve been picked or not. Even when they’ve come back in, nothing has changed. No passion, no guts. All going through the motions. The only good thing Lampard can do between now and when he leaves is to tell them how important it is to play for Chelsea, the badge and the fans. Nothing else will change - on the pitch. Anyone that thinks we’ll win the Champions League is kidding themselves. We’ll lose by 3/4 goals on aggregate. We haven’t the backbone, the balls, the heart at the moment. Fuck the majority of this team off in the summer. And go again next season. Rant over. Oh, morning by the way. 😏
