Covering: One big tactical flaw vs Madrid, Talking mentality monsters, Lampard's free-hit, My lineup for Brighton, Plus all the latest Blues news and transfer rumours!
Morning all,
It’s been another glum week for Chelsea Football Club and I am afraid I cannot foresee things getting any better anytime soon. The process is long, as Mr. Boehly himself said this week.
After losing to Real Madrid in midweek, we now have to face Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. It will be Frank Lampard’s ‘homecoming’ as such, but I don’t know many fans who are expecting us to get anything more than another defeat against a very good team who are full of confidence. We can all but hope, once again!
But if we are losing anyway, why not try something different and play some players who have not featured lately whilst also resting key players for the second leg against Real Madrid next week? I’ve got my reasoning on that here. And the lineup I would go for here. I mean, we all know we have pretty much zero chance of turning it around next week in reality (even though factually we have), but I still think we should rest key players this weekend.
The reason we lost the game against Madrid in midweek is due to the fact that quite simply, they wanted it more. They were first to everything; second balls, tackles, and won their individual battles all game. Sometimes football can be so simple. But are Chelsea’s mentality monsters a thing of the past and will they stay just that? I debate that here.
Having said that, there was one big tactical issue that I saw beaming out at me during the Madrid game, and it involves the positioning of our wingbacks and team on the whole when trying to play out. I think a simple switch up could have helped us immensely, and I explain why here.
Last article of the day now and here is where you can roundup all the latest Chelsea news and transfer rumours, as well as any other quotes and reactions from the Madrid game. There are quite a few new transfer links in this today actually, worth checking out.
Macca was unable to join me on the Podcast this week due to having tooth pain (poor baby), so I had our pal The Score join me at the last minute just so you didn’t have to listen to me the whole time!! You can listen to that show here!
As always I’ll be on the Substack app this weekend for any updates into the chat, so download that if you haven’t already! Otherwise, ‘see’ you all Sunday!
Hope you have a good weekend!
Peace, Si.
Not sure whether I want him or not, but there’s too much Gavi noise at the moment for there not to be something going on. At the very least we’ve spoken to him/his agent surely.
Hardly think that extending Enzo's contract by a year is the most important job for our contracts department !!
Ollle - is it the young Brazillian striker ?
