Chelsea lose hope in signing Erling Haaland
You can never say never, but it's not looking positive. Where now?
The reliable Simon Johnson from The Athletic has written a timely update on Chelsea’s striker situation.
As the club records it’s record lowest high scorer for the season in their history, the need to sign a big name new striker is now more evident than before, and one of their priority targets appeared to have slipped away for now.
Johnson reports that Chelsea have lost hope of signing Erling Haaland from Dortmund this summer, due to the club qualifying for Champions League football, which we had always been told would be a factor in this move.
Is it over? I wouldn’t say over, anything can happen in this business and we know that Haaland is still a top priority for Chelsea.
However, as our insider Dan McCarthy reported late last week, Romelu Lukaku has become the clubs main striker target, and perhaps this was the main reason.
Inter have got the investment needed to save themselves from immediate financial danger, but they are far from comfortable. Antonio Conte is still not sure he will stay on this season, and that will be massive factor on whether Lukaku stays or goes.
As it stands, he is happy at Inter, but it is believed his eyes could be turned by a move to Chelsea if Conte leaves the club and things look bleak there.
Long few months ahead now as Chelsea pursue a new striker. We haven’t had any other solid names given to us a backup options, other than the club would LOVE to sign Harry Kane, which seems impossible, and despite reports on the contrary, Sergio Aguero WAS very much being considered by Chelsea as a backup plan, but he looks all but done to Barcelona now.
The only other names I’ve been told about recently is Andrea Belotti, and Andre Silva, but these are just names being looked at as apposed to solid targets for now anyway.
