Chelsea interested in Dean Henderson
Reports suggest the Manchester United goalkeeper could ask to leave this summer
Chelsea are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer, according to local reports.
The Manchester Evening news have ran a story suggesting that the 23-year old England international is unhappy playing second fiddle to David De Gea, and unless he is promised the number one spot this summer he will ask to leave the club.
Now Chelsea’s name has been linked with Henderson before they signed Edouard Mendy, and our sources tell us he was one of the names given to the board by Frank Lampard along with Jan Oblak and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Chelsea ended up signing Mendy because he was easy to get, low-risk, and Petr Cech signed him off after scouting missions.
Mendy however, due to being low-risk, has always been more of a stop-gap signing for Chelsea. That isn’t saying they will sell him, but they signed him knowing this would not be all their eggs in his basket.
We know that Chelsea have held recent talks with the agent of Donnarumma, so the desire is there to bring in a stronger goalkeeper. The AC Milan keeper is still yet to sign a new deal at the club, but the feeling is that he still wants to.
The Kepa Arrizabalaga situation as well is awkward, the board still want to see him succeed at the club, but Lampard wanted to sell him. Thomas Tuchel is also selecting Mendy as his preferred number one, but at the same time leaving the door open for Kepa.
I can only see a red-faced board having to lose out on a lot of cash for the Spaniard this summer, and then we will see them pursue another goalkeeper.
This is where they might revisit Henderson, and the report from local Manchester press name Chelsea as one of the interested parties still, so I certainly wouldn’t switch off from this rumour any time soon.
