The international break is in full flow, and for some odd reason, the rumours during this break get even more weirder than usual.
It’s been very easy to create Chelsea stories since Thomas Tuchel took charge, let’s be honest.
First of all it was Hakim Ziyech, ironically when he wasn’t playing. Then it was Christian Pulisic when HE wasn’t playing, then even more weirdly, it was the turn of Timo Werner.
Of course, when players are not performing well or not playing at all, the speculation will naturally begin.
I’m not saying we should always ignore this, but you don’t need to be an insider to be able to look at the bigger picture here, at least in the case of Werner.
We didn’t even ask about those stories when they came out, because both myself and Dan were confident enough to tell you that Werner would not be leaving this summer regardless who was reporting otherwise.
Whilst things can always drastically change in this business, that remains our opinion.
Chelsea made a big investment in Werner this summer amongst others, so to admit defeat already and let him leave the club, it’s not even fathomable.
The Chelsea board have told Thomas Tuchel to get the best out of players like Werner and Kai Havertz, and that is what Tuchel is doing.
With that said, Matt Law has dropped a report on Monday confirming that Chelsea do not have any plans to sell Werner this summer. Shock.
Almost minutes after that came out, another reliable Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella came out with a story leading with the point that Werner will not be asking to leave Chelsea this summer and wants to stay. Again, shock.
That last bit is something that Dan has already told you on a recent podcast.
I think we need a new name for the international break? The transfer window is aptly named ‘silly season’, what should we call the international break? Suggestions on a postcard (or in the comments section) please!
Next rumour!
