Chelsea fans starting to dream of Raphael Varane
The Blues have been linked with the Real Madrid centre back
Before we get too excited with this one, it’s worth remembering that the sources linking Chelsea are not too strong as of yet.
I’d describe the noise as more whispers than anything for now, but Chelsea ARE being linked with signing Real Madrid centre back, Raphael Varane.
The 28-year old will be out of contract at the end of next summer, and it appears that his mind is already made up on his future and the general feeling is he will be off this summer.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano seems to think he will end up in the Premier League, which of course caused even more excitement for Chelsea and Manchester United fans, two clubs who are linked, United a lot more as it stands.
“My future is clear”, says Varane.
“I am focused on the end of this season. We are in a very intense and key moment.”
No signs of a new extension being agreed with Madrid, so there is every chance he could be off. But will their owner, who also happens to be the Chairman of the newly proposed European Super League, really want to trade with two of the clubs who pulled out of his league right away?
Well, the simple answer to that is if he will have to IF he wants to get a decent fee for any of his players moving forward, because clubs who can afford big deals are few and far between.
Are Chelsea actually interested in Varane then?
Well, this is a question I knew we would be asked and to be completely honest, I don’t know. I’ve not been told of any Chelsea interest in Varane, but as I always say that doesn’t mean it is not true, we do not always get all the information, in fact, there is a lot we do not get.
However, what I do know is that historically Chelsea do hold a firm interest in Varane, and I am adamant that if a chance to sign him becomes available our board will at least be having the discussions - Chelsea would LOVE to sign him, and he has been a board favourite for some time.
But whether the stars align for him to join Chelsea right now or not, we will await to see.
