Chelsea 2 Newcastle 0 - The Kovacic and Werner Show!
Chelsea move back to fourth place in the Premier League and Timo Werner scores!
The wait was finally over for Timo Werner tonight, as the Chelsea striker broke his goal drought to score the second goal against Newcastle United.
He played well, and also setup the first goal for Olivier Giroud. But it wasn’t only that, the way he battled through a bloody mouth after getting a whack in the face to carry on and assist and then score literally whilst the blood was still dripping, is exactly the kind of desire that us Chelsea fans love to see from him.
Even if things aren’t going for you or your form isn’t great, if the 100% effort is still there and so is the desire and determination, the fans will always keep willing you to succeed.
Let’s hope this becomes the kick start he needs.
Chelsea move back into 4th place in the Premier League and back into the all important Champions League places.
Thomas Tuchel collects his 5th victory in a row as Chelsea manager, also marking 6 games unbeaten, and Mateo Kovacic was absolutely phenomenal.
The Croatian international ran the game for Chelsea, literally providing the heartbeat for everything good that they did helping brush aside Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side.
Kovacic was everywhere and really controlled the match for Chelsea tonight, whether he was at the back tackling or receiving a pass in a tight spot to then majestically glide out of danger past two or three players, or if he was driving forward at pace with the ball to setup a dangerous Chelsea attack - he was quality, and he was easily Chelsea’s man of the match.
Important three points for The Blues, and a case of job well done and that’s all they needed. The tests will get tougher now!
