5 things I noticed from Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal
The Blues have won two on the trot now without conceding a goal
Chelsea have scored 5 goals and not conceded any in their first two games of the new Premier League campaign, and things are all rosy in the camp right now.
Here are 5 things I noticed from our big win at The Emirates yesterday.
Romelu Lukaku has returned as a man
Chelsea secured their new big-name striker that they really wanted, and after just ten minutes of watching Lukaku in a Chelsea shirt yesterday, you could see exactly why they were so keen to sign him.
Not only was he an absolute bully to the whole Arsenal back line, his experience and influence on the pitch is going to prove just as important as his goals, and he will score many of those.
It was inevitable that he would score on Sunday, you could see it in his eyes in his interviews this week, and again before the match.
He left Chelsea as a goalless boy, but he has returned as a debut scoring man, and what a signing he is going to prove to be.
Kai Havertz and Mason Mount are going to thrive with Lukaku
The link up and chemistry was already there with all three of them, and you could already see the excitement in the play of Mount and Havertz, knowing that they have a focal point now to fire the ball in to and go for the return.
The three of them are going to create and score so many goals, Premier League defences will be anxious as hell watching that yesterday.
Reece James and his sh*t housing
This guy bleeds blue, this guy is the epitome of Chelsea, the epitome of your John Terry’s, Frank Lampard’s and Didier Drogba’s of yesteryears.
How do I know that? The images below explain all…. This was after he scored yesterday, in front the angry mob of Arsenal fans, sh*t housing away.. Love this!
I’ve seen this somewhere before.. Oh yes, John Terry in front the West Ham fans… Inject it!
Lukaku (again, yes I have to keep talking about him) stopping mid-game to clap and acknowledge the Chelsea fans signing his name loudly in the second half
I absolutely loved this, big Rom patting the badge and applauding the Chelsea fans singing his name to the ‘Super Frank’ tune. Just imagine the feeling in his stomach when he heard this, this is all he has ever wanted since he was a kid. He has finally scored a goal for the club he adores, and his and Chelsea’s fans were now singing his name loudly..
This was at the end of the game with Chelsea fans signing the same song.. “ROOMMA, ROMELU, ROOMMA, ROMELU, ROOMMA, ROMELU, ROMELU LUKAKUUU"!”
Every single player played well
I do the Chelsea player ratings for The Sun, and on Sunday I didn’t rate one player less than an 8, even Edouard Mendy’s distribution was great and the few times he did get called upon earned him an 8.
Marcos Alonso was great again and is really staking a claim, and most of the players I gave 9’s and 8’s to, and a 10 for Lukaku.
And the thing about that is even though every single Chelsea player played well yesterday, you still felt like we had another gear or two to use and up the tempo and threat even more. What an exciting time to be a Blue, right?
Simon Phillips
The fact that Lukaku literally only trained for one week with the squad before this game tells me there are levels we wouldn’t believe this team is going to go! It’s really is exciting times as a blue!
Glad you had a great day Simon and congratulations etc. In True Blue style the result topped it off for you and luv the analysis. Lukaku looked awesome, mind you so did everyone else. Who is this 'new' left wing back we've got - where is the old Alonso we wanted rid of - please tell him he can't come back! Will 'Chilly B' get a look in? It is, as you say, an exciting time to be a Chelsea fan and having supported them for over 50 years we've certainly had our ups and downs so it's great to be enjoying hopefully a long and extended 'up'.
