Chelsea ease past Barrow, Is Maresca adapting to opposition or is he playing counter-attacking football? Mudryk debate continues, Pundits changing their tunes on Chelsea is embarrassing, Nuch More...
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Wednesday 25th September 2024!
Morning all,
It was a Chelsea match day yesterday in the third round of the English League Cup, with The Blues welcoming minnows Barrow from League Two to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues showed zero complacency and made sure they played with plenty of aggression to avoid a potential banana skin last night, winning 5-0!
You can read my full thoughts, reactions, review, debrief, player/manager ratings, and conclusion in here.
I had a bunch of content out before the game, including the live blog that was running throughout the day reporting on all your general Chelsea news in the same place from across the last 24 hours in here.
I wanted to hone in more on Enzo Maresca’s tactics so far as Chelsea boss. It’s been rather puzzling, but in a good way. We all heard how he plays possession based football and many claimed he has no Plan B. But is he now actually setting up by adapting to the opposition? Or are we just not seeing full ‘Maresca-ball’ in operation yet? Because to me, as I explain in here, I am seeing more of a counter-attacking style of play so far this season, which is a good thing in my opinion. A pragmatic Maresca? Maybe.
Mykhailo Mudryk started last night against Barrow, and I wrote this article on him before the game here based on comments made by Maresca saying that the winger does not lack confidence. I still think he does personally, and I’ve continued that debate inside the article.
And the last article of this newsletter is on some of our lovely football pundits out there who are flip flopping so bad lately that they are vastly changing their opinions on Chelsea after just five league games. I think it’s all madness, but it does show the issues of this ‘industry’ right now. Read much more on that in here.
Right, join me on the live blog this morning where I will post the full transcript of Maresca’s post-match press conference, and also welcome all your comments on the game! See you all there :)
Peace, Si.
The English League Cup it takes me back being called that.
Ahhhh nuch more 😉
