Benoit Badiashile: A conversation......
His performance levels have changed completely in such a short space of time and it is clear to see why.
Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents,
Today I wanted to have a quick chat about the performances of Benoit Badiashile, he has had a very unlucky season with injury and has had no consistency in terms of games, missing large chunks of the season returning for a few games and then missing again.
He was getting lots of stick on social media very recently and at the time I remember thinking and even saying to Si that I wouldn’t be against selling him. For me that is an incredibly reactionary statement and not something I usually am, but what we all need to understand it is hard to play with confidence when you have no momentum.
In the last month or so Benoit has been very good, taking it back to last season when he first signed he was impeccable in an awful team, he has an excellent passing range and vision, reads the game well and can be really aggressive in his defending, they are all attributes we have missed at certain times this season.
His performance against West Ham on Sunday as a ball playing centre back was nothing short of excellent and the way he played showed massive confidence in himself and the fact he is confident in his fitness and his body again.

I really love watching him when he is fully fit and on form, although I do struggle to see where he starts in our best XI IF everybody is ever fit. That’s purely hypothetical and the truth is it is very very rare you ever have a fully fit squad, and even more rarely do you see Chelsea have a fully fit squad.
Going forward I just want to see him playing with confidence and playing his game because when he does he breeds composure and ball playing to a top level!
He's very good when the game is played in front of him, but even in his last few games he's had issues with losing his runner. Plays with blinkers on at times. Not sure if that's something coachable (I'd assume so). If he can work that out, he'll be really good.
